Overview

Hindu College is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for all students. Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited, and strict disciplinary measures are enforced against those who violate this policy.

The college promotes awareness programs and counseling to ensure students feel supported and secure. Every student’s dignity, safety, and well-being are a top priority at Hindu College.

Anti-Ragging Policy (As per Indian Law)

Hindu College strictly follows the Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009, issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under the Indian law. Ragging is defined as any act that causes, or is likely to cause, physical or psychological harm, including teasing, bullying, or coercion. In accordance with the law, the college maintains a zero-tolerance policy: students found guilty of ragging may face immediate suspension, expulsion, or legal action, including filing a First Information Report (FIR). The institution also conducts awareness programs and provides counseling to ensure a safe, supportive, and harassment-free campus.

Consequences of Ragging

While Anti-Ragging policies are essential for student safety, they can sometimes present challenges. Strict enforcement and severe punishments may create fear rather than awareness among students. Monitoring all forms of ragging, especially subtle or off-campus incidents, can be difficult and resource-intensive. In rare cases, false complaints may arise, and zero-tolerance rules can unintentionally reduce informal mentoring opportunities between seniors and juniors. Balancing strict enforcement with education, counseling, and a supportive environment is key to making these policies truly effective.
